Guided day walks

Choose from an easy stroll through the foothills of Rawnsley Bluff or a challenging trek to the top of the Bluff. Both walks start at 7am*.

Daybreak Loop Walk (approx. 3 hrs, Easy)

Discover the unique native flora and wildlife in the foothills of Rawnsley Bluff with your experienced local guide on this three-kilometre loop walk. Learn how the ancient sea floor has been uplifted and eroded to create this amazing landscape, and hear about Operation Bounceback – the feral animal control program established in 1993. After the walk, finish with a cooked breakfast in the bush.

Daybreak Summit Walk (approx. 5 hrs, Moderate to Hard)

This eight-kilometre walk is an extended version of the Daybreak Loop Walk, with the additional challenge of a climb to the top of Rawnsley Bluff. From here there are magnificent views of Rawnsley Park Station and the Flinders Ranges – you can even see into Wilpena Pound. Includes packed lunch.

One-day Wilpena Pound Guided Walk ( Moderate)

This tour departs Rawnsley Park Station at 7am* for the short drive to Wilpena Pound Resort. From here, you’ll walk with your guide along the Heysen Trail across the floor of Wilpena Pound before an easy climb to Bridle Gap. The 15-kilometre walk returns to the Resort via Wangarra Lookout. Includes morning tea, packed lunch and 4WD transfers.

*Summer start times may vary depending on weather.

Heli Hiking from Gregory Gap on the Chace Range (moderate)

After a 10 minute heli flight, land on the specially built heli-pad, and take the time to make the 150m walk into our Chace Range swagging campsite. The views from high on the Chace Range are stunning – the Elder Range, Ulowdna Range and Wilpena Pound all beckon. It's then time to head off with your guide for the Chace Track, cut by bulldozer by the Gregory brothers several years ago to give them access to the eastern side of the range. From here, we follow the steep, rocky track downhill on to the plains country where Rawnsley Park station runs it Merino/Dohne cross sheep. Watch out for red kangaroos, emus, wedge-tailed eagles and the beautiful Mallee ring neck parrots.

Cost includes 10 minute helicopter flight to the Chace Range, guide and packed lunch/snacks
