Sweet Home SA

Music • Storytelling
South Australia

Following a sell-out premiere at the 2021 Fringe, Doctor D and Fergus Maximus return with an expanded version of their musical tribute to our state and city. Oozing fun and positivity, Sweet Home SA is a joyous celebration of South Aussie life, experience and culture; part satire, part homage, from amusing trivia to the deeply personal. Original songs and stories from two award-winning songwriters and their six-piece band spanning folk, blues, rock and pop. Interweaving personal journeys with the history and geography of this state and its people, this special reworking of the show introduces new characters, songs and locations. Full of energy, wry observation and a heady combination of nostalgia and optimism, they ask, “Is there a better place to live?” ★★★★ SWT_HM_ADL (The Clothesline)

Presented by: Doctor D and Fergus Maximus

Known for satire and humour, Doctor D also writes more serious songs with insightful lyrics, big tunes (and searing guitar solos). As a frequent visitor from the UK and now resident, he has built a repertoire of locally-themed songs reaching across musical genres. He has performed on five continents and legendary blues venues in London and Chicago.

Born in Whyalla, Fergus Maximus grew up in Clare. Singer/Storyteller. Songwriter. Writerwriter. Saxophonist. He is an engaging storyteller whose melodic pop/rock songs embrace all the important things—love, loss, mistakes, surprises and people’s astonishing capacity to miscommunicate—with wit, intelligence and fun.

The first collaboration of these award-winning songwriters, SWT_HM_ADL, was a resounding success in the 2021 Adelaide Fringe.
