The GBomb XC Endurance And Gravel-X

Overview

The Gbomb event is a Cross Country (XC) mountain bike endurance race held in Bom Bom State Forest by Grafton Cycle Club, its been held most years since 2012. For 2024 we have returned to the 12hr and 6hr lengths for teams and solos, we've expanded the 2hr category to cater for more solo categories as well.
We are planning an action packed weekend of racing.
 - The GBomb 2hr/6hr/12hr on Saturday 23rd August
 - The Gravel-X race on Sunday 24th August

The Gbomb is always a fun and friendly atmosphere, we aim to provide a top quality event, with Coffee van every morning, good food, free camping, hot showers and hopefully our friendly local brewery will be on site for evening refreshments too! One of the elements of the Gbomb that earns us a Kudos is that we offer a unique course design to switch to a completely different track halfway through the event.

The Gravel-X is a new concept we conjured up last year, the majority of gravel races is a road race on gravel roads, which requires extensive approvals with police,  roads, councils, etc. Not the Gravel-X, its all within the state forest on the fire road network.
So the tweak in the format is the "X" in Gravel-X, it translates to “Cross”, so its Gravel racing with a Cross Country or Cyclocross style. It will be multi-lap of a course  with a mix of fast smooth gravel roads, some rough gravel roads and a little bit of easy MTB tracks thrown in. There may be a few spots where you need to slow right down or get off to get and walk through like you would in cyclocross. This unique take on gravel racing is sure to be a memorable experience.

Registration And Categories

To capture all entrants we have had to set up 3 different registration links for the bike races,  Please make sure you choose the right link for your race.
All entrants will need to have a valid AusCycling licence when they enter, there are 4 options for this: Off-road race membership, All-road Race membership, 4 week free trial membership, Day licence (all ages $44)

Teams Entries

The entry system doesn't cater for teams very well. So we've had to set up a separate link, each competitor needs pay specific attention to the following:
  • Each team member must enter separately and arrange the required race licence (annual, free trial or day licence)
  • Each team member needs to pay attention to entering the same category and the same team name.
  • If there is 1x eBike in the team, the whole team picks eBike regardless of age or gender
  • A mix of juniors and adults area allowed (and encouraged) in the Open categories, however the Juniors policy* while dictate a limit to how much they can ride.
  • If all members are from the same family please select yes for the “family team box” to be in the running for the family bonus prize
  • If all members represent a clarence valley business or organisation please select yes for “Clarence Valley team” to be in the running for a bonus prize. Also include your business/org name as part of your team name eg “Jetts gym junkies”, “Toast cafe caffeine hitters”, “Grafton Tri club try dirt”

Juniors Policy

AusCycling sanctions this event and as such, they have a policy recommending varying time and distance limits for each age group to ensure the safety of our juniors racing. Subsequently, in this endurance event format we cant offer races for categories younger than those listed above. During the race briefing and other there will be some focus on elements of the juniors policy, confirming these limits for each age group. If you have any queries, please get in touch with us.
