Event description

Doors open 6pm, performance beings 6:30pm.

Golden Gate Brass presents the dazzling sounds of brass in a program of works that are iconic, Australian, and made the group fall in love with quintet.

After working with Australian Composer Alex Turley in 2018 to bring a new piece into the world that pushes the boundaries with flowing ethereal melodies, experience Cloudscapes, the pleasing combination of new ideas with lyrical brass playing.

Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings is known to many, being one of the most poignant string orchestra pieces written in the modern era. Originally written with the intention to include it as the second movement of his string quartet; here it is perfectly adapted for brass quintet.

Experience the playfulness of Warlock's Capriol Suite and the fiery Hollywood style of Anthony DiLorenzo's Firedance, while Michael Tilson Thomas' Streetsong is every bit as grand and striking as San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.

These enthralling works bring the excitement of brass centre stage and make full use of the unique dazzling sound of brass.

Golden Gate Brass have appeared in concert across Australia. They have been artists at the Canberra international Music Festival, performed in concert at ANAM, have had residencies with Four Winds and the University of Western Australia, and have collaborated with multiple ensembles such as Ad Lib Collective and the Corelia Quintet. Each member of the ensemble maintains an impressive career in their own right, having collectively appeared in every Australian full-time professional orchestra as well as in numerous other performances, festivals and competitions across Australia.

Golden Gate Brass provide performances which are high energy, innovative and exciting. They have also shared their experience with younger musicians across the country through residencies with programs such as ANAM, Four Winds and UWA. Golden Gate Brass enjoy sharing their love of music with a younger audience and with those that may not have previously had opportunities to see a chamber ensemble perform.
