Calling all engine buffs!!!

ILUKA MUSEUM
VINTAGE MARINE ENGINE DISPLAY
PLUNGE 2024
SATURDAY 13TH APRIL, 9am till 3pm
SAVE THIS DATE

Restoration work is well underway on a vintage Simplex Marine Engine which was recently donated to the Iluka Museum. It is one of several which we hope to have running on the day.

Our display will tell the story of how early Iluka fishermen went from having the arduous task of rowing or sailing their boats to make a living from the Clarence, to using the first small marine inboard engines on the market to power their fishing vessels.

A new publication by the Iluka History Group launched at the recent centenary of the Iluka Soldiers Memorial Hall – Cost $35

Iluka now has its very own HERITAGE TRAIL BROCHURE!
Visitors can choose one of three walks around Iluka and learn more about Iluka’s past while getting their exercise too. The brochure is easy to read with a colourful map showing where to find Iluka’s historical sites and some amazing old photos as well.
Brochures can be picked up around town or call into the Iluka Museum on Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday mornings”

Iluka History Group’s two publications have been released!  A history book with a difference!

The work is a compilation of historical stories and memoirs that date from as far back as 1875 when Iluka was first settled.
They are printed in the exact words and vernacular used so many years ago. To add character to the book, artists from our local community have created their own colourful personal interpretations of these tales.
These stories are part of our heritage and highlight the unique character of Iluka’s past.

As a child and into my late teens I would holiday regularly with my family (mum, dad and brother) in this beautiful little village. We would trek all the way from Sydney to be there. Much has changed now but ‘the more things change, the more they stay the same’. I’m glad that this group is retaining the history of this town that still holds such a special place in my heart.
