Henry Lawson Centre Gulgong

The Henry Lawson Centre at Gulgong is a museum dedicated solely to the life, times, and woorks of Henry Lawson, via photos, paintings, prints and a large variety of Lawson memorabillia.

The museum is rated the best display of Lawson memorabillia in the world, and is second in size only to the State Library at Sydney. About 95% of the collection is on display, and it has been decribed as “one of the 5 must see places in the world for people interested in literature”.

As well, there is a TV in the second display room which plays 7 of his poems, fully dramatised.

The Gulgong /Eurunderee/Mudgee area is very important in Lawson’s works, with over 200 of his poems and short stories mentioning the three towns, Lawson’s relatives, friends, teachers and neighbours, mostly by their real names. The Lawson family lived in the area from the time Henry was 6 months old until he was seventeen.

Open 7 days a week from 10:00am to 3:30pm (1pm on Sunday).
