Temperatures across the Northern Territory can be very hot between October and April.

It can exceed 40 degrees Celsius in some locations. High humidity in the Top End can also make you tire easily.

This stunning gorge and chasm is a refuge for many threatened plant and animal species.

It is located in the Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park and nestled at the base of Mount Sonder (Rutjupma, pronounced ‘roo-choop-ma’).

For visitors travelling on the Red Centre Way, Redbank Gorge also provides a refreshing stop and a chance to stretch your legs on a short walk.

Redbank Gorge is only accessible by 4WD.

This park requires visitors to the NT to have a parks pass.

Swimming

The gorge has an almost permanent waterhole year round located 1km from the carpark.

You should be aware that most waterholes in the park are extremely cold.

Prolonged exposure, even during summer, can result in hypothermia.

It's recommended that swimmers use a flotation device to swim through the gorge.

Beware of submerged logs and rocks.

Don't jump or dive into the water.

Camping

Redbank Gorge has 2 category B campsites, the Ridgetop and the Woodland campgrounds.

Caravans are only allowed at the Woodland Campground.

There are basic facilities including toilets, firepits and picnic tables.

Book and pay online

You must book and pay online for designated campsites and some multi-day walking trails. Do this before you go.

You can't pay at the park.
