Cooks Hill is situated just south of the Newcastle central business district and is known for its vibrant atmosphere and popular residential and commercial areas. Cooks Hill was established in the mid-19th century and has a rich historical background. The suburb’s name is derived from an Aboriginal phrase, “kukkaburra,” meaning “camping ground.” It was originally a working-class area with a mix of residential and industrial activities. Over the years, Cooks Hill has evolved into a highly sought-after suburb with a mix of architectural styles, ranging from charming cottages to modern townhouses and apartments. The suburb is known for its tree-lined streets, heritage-listed buildings, and a lively café and dining scene. It is also a short walk to Bar Beach and coastal walks.
Guest Access
There is parking for one car in the carport which is accessed via the back lane. Height limit is 193cm and is best suited to small - medium sized cars as the laneway can be tight for large vehicles. Free street parking can be found in the surrounding streets for any extra cars.
Good to know
The Cottage Ada is a mix of heritage, classic and quirky! Positioned just behind Darby Streets cafes, restaurants, boutiques and bars, you are able to walk almost everywhere throughout the inner city. Downstairs in the original house you will find the lounge room with Smart TV, leather lounge and gas heater. Large eat in kitchen with dishwasher, gas cooking, oversized bedroom with double bed and second bedroom with two king single beds. There is a bathroom with shower and laundry also on this level. Upstairs in the attic conversion there are two bedrooms. The larger room boasts a queen size bed, air conditioning and toilet room. The second room has a double bed and cute dormer window overlooking the street. The private courtyard has outdoor dining, deck with outdoor lounge and secure carport for one car. We provide our guests with WIFI, linen, towels, basic toiletries and cooking essentials. The beach, Newcastle CBD, parks, playgrounds, shops, restaurants and bars are all within walking distance to the cottage. Unfortunately we do not accept groups under 25 years old.
