Historic village

Taralga is a friendly and character-filled town, known for its fine collection of buildings from the 1800s, emerging foodie scene and the famous Taralga Australia Day Rodeo. The historic town is also on the way to the spectacular Wombeyan Caves. Built on land donated by the son of wool pioneer John Macarthur, Taralga was cleared and developed by convicts in the mid 1800s. Explore this history on the self-guided Taralga Heritage Walking Tour, which takes you past the heritage listed Christ the King Catholic Church.

Taralga is less than three hours drive from Sydney and an easy 90min drive from Canberra.

The Argyle Inn

The Argyle Inn (circa 1875) has put Taralga on the map as a destination and yet another reason to stay over for a weekend or longer. Hugh Wennerbom, providore and farmer, together with his partners who own Bannaby Angus, are serious about quality local produce, delivered with their signature flourish. Like their smoked duck breasts, suckling pig, pork belly and chickens and their whole Angus sirloins. It won them a Hat in the 2020 Good Food Guide.
