Federation Walk Coastal Reserve

Federation Walk Coastal Reserve

The Federation Walk Coastal Reserve includes 60 hectares of vegetation and nearly three kilometres of shoreline. Stretching from Philip Park near Sea World to the Seaway on The Spit, it is one of the few remaining areas with an established dune system on the Gold Coast.

The reserve supports a variety of habitats and is particularly known for its birdlife.

The network of trails through the reserve is used for bushwalking, birdwatching, running and bike riding.

Community partnerships

The Federation Walk project was initiated by the community to conserve and enhance the reserve as a natural public space. The project began in 1999 when the Main Beach Progress Association obtained a Queensland Centenary of Federation grant. The funds were matched by City of Gold Coast, leading to construction of the Federation Walk track and community planting activities.

We work closely with Friends of Federation Walk planting over 10,000 native plant species to rejuvenate and protect the reserve each year.
