Planning
We have invested in improving the quality and capacity of the Oceanway since the early 2000s. We are working to provide a continuous path from the Gold Coast Seaway to the New South Wales border.
Council of the City of Gold Coast adopted the Gold Coast Transport Strategy 2031 in 2013. This prioritised the delivery of a safe active transport network that helps make wheeling, walking and cycling attractive alternatives to the car.
A key action of the strategy is to complete the continuous active travel network along the coastal strip to encourage healthier and more sustainable transport choices from coastal residents and visitors.
Our Oceanway network improves accessibility for people with mobility or vision impairments. It provides more opportunities for everyone to explore Gold Coast beaches and places of interest along the coast.

The Oceanway path is between 3.5 metres to 5 metres wide to provide space for pedestrians and cyclists.

Funding
To assist with funding for the program, the City applies to the State Government's Cycle Network Local Government Grant (CNLGG) program for a 50% contribution of project costs.
CNLGG funding is applied for each section of Oceanway. Refer to project pages for more details on project costs and funding.
