Music to refresh body and soul

Spend your morning in the company of the Goldners, whose preternatural rapport has been honed over many years of performance.

The Goldner String Quartet are excellence incarnate, their reputation continually burnished by the quality of their music making. Magic happens when they come together onstage, and for this Sydney Morning Masters concert audiences can expect no less.

They’ll perform Schumann’s String Quartet No. 3 in A Major, a work significantly influenced by the string quartets of both Mozart and Beethoven. With such inspiration forming the bedrock of this piece, it’s no surprise this Schumann’s work is a shining example of the form, masterfully infused with a sense of wistfulness and ardour.

It’s programmed alongside a work by one of the Quartet’s favourite composers Ross Edwards, White Cockatoo Spirit Dance. The work contains two contrasting movements – an expressive adagio and an energetic maninya, or dance/chant. Gareth Farr’s Té Koanga will meanwhile be a wonderful discovery for many listeners. A celebration of the arrival of spring, it is a meditative piece that evokes stillness and birdsong.
