Raymond Terrace and Karuah

Raymond Terrace is a rural service district set on the banks of the Hunter River. The historic river town of Raymond Terrace, gazetted in 1937, is rich in history and natural beauty. Surrounded by fertile farmland and located at the junction of the Williams and Hunter Rivers.

The iconic King Street, with its grand 19th century timber buildings and elegant verandahs, stand testament to the towns history. On the corner of William and Hunter Street is the Junction Inn overlooking the river. This was once King’s Hotel said to be the second oldest hotel in NSW.

Spend the morning exploring the Raymond Terrace Historic Town Walk. An online version is available. Simply click on the number for some interesting facts and images.

From mid-October to late November visit Jacaranda Avenue in Raymond Terrace to snap a photo of the purple blooms of the Jacaranda Tree. Nearby Sturgeon Street and Adelaide Street are also great locations to see streets filled with beautiful purple flowers gently falling on the footpaths.

The riverside location makes Raymond Terrace ideal for waterskiing, boating and long lazy picnics on the grassy banks and parklands.

Twenty minutes further north along the freeway is the tranquil riverside neighbourhood of Karuah. Ideal for waterfront picnics, throwing a line in off the jetty, exploring the National Park or the Karuah River. A great spot to moor a houseboat, try kayaking and tasting fresh oysters direct from the oyster farmer at Cole Bros Oysters. The village is also home to the Karuah Oyster and Timber Festival held every October. Take advantage of the playground and picnic facilities at Longworth Park or extend your stay at BIG4 Karuah Jetty Village and enjoy the serenity!
