BOURKE FISHING RESERVE

Information

A great place to view the historic Bourke Weir and Lock, you can almost hear the old paddle steamers whistle at the bend, alerting the lockkeeper to operate the large chamber and facilitate access up or downstream for the vessels. The lock and weir, though not in use, are in excellent condition, and the weir still services the community of Bourke.

Beyond the lock and weir infrastructure, the Fishing Reserve provides access to several public sites, including sandbar beaches, rock bars and shady picnic areas. In addition, there is a range of walking/cycling tracks interconnecting the numerous riverside sites, and most locations have tables and barbeques, with shared toilets between sites.
