Heysen Trail – Tanunda to Kapunda – 28kms

2-day walk (9am start Day 1  – 5pm end Day 2) Murray Street, Tanunda start and finish

This is a wonderful two-day walk for those wanting to experience a section of the Heysen Trail enjoying views over the Barossa, iconic Australian bushland, eat local produce and drink icon wines en route to Kapunda.

Join Walk Local on this two-day walk starting in Tanunda, the Heysen Trail follows the back roads of the Barossa, passing vineyards, wineries and historic nineteenth-century buildings and natural Australian bushland.  We stop off at Torbreck Vintners for a wine tasting and enjoy the views.  The trail crosses a creek lined with gumtrees before arriving in Greenock – a historic village that was once a busy crossroad.  Here in Greenock, we enjoy a classic Aussie pub lunch  at The Greenock Hotel.  In the afternoon we enjoy a guided wine tasting at Kalleske’s Vineyard and Murray Street Wines before relaxing at your pre-booked B & B accommodation in Greenock.  Your evening is free to enjoy many of the wonderful eateries in the Barossa Valley.

Day 2 we continue our walk to Kapunda after your continental breakfast.  From Greenock, walkers will notice the vineyards start to peter out and be replaced by rolling farmland.  Following a series of minor country roads, and then track, the trail climbs towards Belevedere Trig, passing through dense forest on the climb.

The trail then traverses more farmland, some of which contains deeply eroded creeks that are subject to flooding.  Just out of Kapunda, the trail joins a track that then becomes a minor road, en-route walkers will pass the Old Kapunda Mine, established in 1844 – the site of the first significant copper mine in Australia’s history.  Our walk ends in the main street of Kapunda.  Guest will be transported back to Tanunda.
