About the Weekend

Dates and times for the October 2022 retreat to be announced early in 2022.

The High Country Writers Retreat is designed for writers at any stage of their writing development, to experience a dedicated writing and authorial experience in the company of other writers and published authors.  The Retreat offers a ‘boutique’ experience with each Retreater having a program designed to cater specifically to his or her stated Retreat goals.

Accommodation & Meals – Retreaters may select from a range of lovingly-renovated rooms or cottages on Waterloo Station, with quiet, climate-controlled quarters and ensuite facilities in most rooms.  The Retreat will be fully catered and includes dinners in different Station locations for added variety.

Program facilitation and mentoring – writer, business advisor and mentor and Retreat Director, Virginia Eddy, will be on-hand to guide Retreaters through a defined but flexible program that offers tailor-made individual mentoring, small group and large group sessions.

Writing time - when, for how long and on what will be each Retreater’s choice.  It is your retreat designed to achieve your goals.

Challenges – micro ideas and writing challenges will be on offer to stimulate minds and motivate conversation as well as writing action for one, two or the whole Retreat group.

Inspirational walks - Retreaters will be offered guided-walks daily to explore built and natural features across Waterloo Station, whether taken up to take a break from writing, to get the blood flowing or to find inspiration, each location offers stimulation for the senses, regardless of your genre and personal interests.

Connect - Writer-retreaters will reside and dine on Station with traditionally- and independently-published authors. Retreat packages include access to all moderated Q&A panel sessions on fiction, non-fiction and more at the concurrent High Country Writers Festival in nearby Glen Innes on the Saturday, and at Waterloo Station on the Sunday.
