Wood Fired Ovens

When you have some fire, some delicious food and a space for the community to share, you end up with a pretty amazing thing.

The Community Wood Fired Ovens provides a unique and fun way for people to interact with each other and develop new connections and friendships.

Anything you can cook in a regular oven can be cooked in the wood fired oven. Bring your ingredients, invite your friends and meet us at Hovell Tree Park, near the Albury Swim Centre, to discover the delicious tastes of wood fired food.

The ovens are fired up every second Sunday for free community use. An expert Oven Coordinator is on hand to help (guidance only – you do the fun bits).

During daylight savings (October–March) the oven is open for baking from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. For the rest of the year (April–September) the oven is open from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The ovens are cleared of ash, prepared and lit the night before a bake.

The oven temperature slowly drops during the day. Pizzas should be cooked early in the bake, then bread and finally roasts, cakes and biscuits.

    • bread and damper
    • pizzas
    • roast meat and vegetables

For extra convenience, why not ask your local bakery or pizza shop if you can buy dough ready made?

The Oven Coordinator is available during the bake to offer guidance. However, sometimes half the fun is in the surprise that comes out of the oven!
