A bush retreat for nature lovers

ABOUT

Base Camp Tasmania (BCT) is a 41-hectare bush property in south-eastern Tasmania, situated in Glenfern in the Derwent Valley, approximately 13 km south-west of New Norfolk and 50 km from Hobart.

Accommodation and Facilities to suit everyone

Accommodation suits a range of budgets and comforts for families, couples, groups and singles. The price includes all bedding (doonas, sheets, pillows), towels, crockery and cutlery, cooking and kitchen equipment.

Choose from:

  • Self contained cabin (for up to 6 people - 1 x QS bed and 4 roomy bunks) with private facilities

  • Clean and cosy mixed dormitory/bunkhouse accommodation (10 roomy bunks) with rucksack storage

  • Camping area overlooking the beautiful Glenfern Valley

All guests have access to the communal facilities comprising:

  • kitchen and common room

  • toilets and showers

  • free laundry facilities

  • free barbeque facilities

  • free Wi-Fi

Where Tasmania’s unique wildlife abounds

A Protected Area on Private Land (PAPL - subject to a Conservation Covenant), BCT abounds in native Tasmanian wildlife, including pademelons, Bennetts wallabies, echidnas, wombats, spotted quolls, and brushtail possums.  The Conservation Covenant confers the status of a privately owned national park on 37 hectares of BCT, which is protected in perpetuity.
