The Highest Bar in the Northern Territory, Outback Australia!

The historic Larrimah Hotel is known for its down to earth hospitality, pink panthers, giant stubby and an eclectic collection of bits and pieces from all over. This is a fair dinkum outback pub experience and is world famous having been ranked in the Top Ten Outback Pubs.

We are located on the Stuart Highway, 534 km south of Darwin and 177 km south of Katherine. Come in and meet our great team and stop for a beer, a chat, a feed and camp the night or stay in one of our motel rooms.

Visit the Birds, (Walkup & Shirley), the Emus, the Wallabies the Crocs Sneaky Sam and Agro and the Larrimah WW2 Heritage Museum across the road.

We hope to see you soon!

Pink Panther

Pub

Back in the 1960’s, a puddle formed out the front of the pub. This puddle grew and grew and became known as ‘Larrimah Lake’. At the time, the pub was a very busy place drawing lots of patrons  working on the railway and driving trucks. The publican at the time decided to sit a giant pink panther on the edge of the ‘lake’ with a fishing rod! The pink panther would often disappear with the owners receiving a ransom note for its safe return, or turning up on a pub roof in Tennant Creek.

This larrikin behaviour became known through the bush telegraph and spread. And so, an icon was born.

In the last 20 years the former publican created a zoo with over 700 birds as well as wallabies and crocodiles and it was late in this period that Paddy Moriarty, one of 11 local residents, went missing due to foul play. The story of Paddy’s murder investigation and the residents of Larrimah is ongoing and there is now a $250,000 reward poster in front of the Pub for any new information.

Now in its 91st year we are slowly renovating to maintain the heritage of the building and it’s place in the history of Larrimah, Birdum and Gorrie.
