King of the Ranges

Members of the King of the Ranges are keen to promote the heritage and traditions of an Australian Stockman's Challenge and there is a role for everyone to volunteer at. Some members know a lot about Stockman's Challenges and some barely know one end of a horse from the other, however, we are a team of fun loving, community minded volunteers who get involved. There are volunteers who start coming as visitors, there are volunteers who are competitors and all are volunteers who want to be connected to a great bunch of people. Some of the volunteer roles are physical and some are sitting down. Everyone is welcome.

Join us to celebrate the King of the Ranges 2023 Stockman's Challenge on the 22-24 Sept 2023 in Murrurundi, NSW. This widely enjoyed agricultural and community event recognises and showcases the traditional skills of Australian Stockmen and women over an exciting and intense 3 day challenge. A unique attraction over the event is the King of the Ranges Bush Festival featuring a host of entertaining traditional activities including bush poetry and famous folklore, fun competitions, displays of horsemanship and bushcraft, billy goat cart races, live music, great food and good old fashioned Upper Hunter hospitality. Enjoy celebrating Australian bush skills, tradition and heritage in beautiful Murrurundi, at the foot of the Great Dividing Range where the New England Highway crosses from the Liverpool Plains into the Upper Hunter.

The King of the Ranges Bush Festival is all about famous folklore, long tales and crazy fun. Will you take out the blue ribbon for the Bush Poetry, Billy Boiling, Campoven Cookoff or Working Dog Comp? The Billy Lids or Kids challenges include the Junior Whip Crack and Billy Goat Cart races.

The King of the Ranges is excited to be running a Challenge Clinic training weekend with expert coaches for participants to upskill and increase their confidence across the preliminary events for the 2023 King of the Ranges (sessions on whip cracking, shoeing, packsaddle, cross country, stock and dog handling and bareback obstacle course). Bring your own horse to shoe or trim plus stockwhip. Camp oven dinner on Saturday night $20/hd. The training weekend is open to all riders of all experience levels and any age. All you need is your horse, helmet and saddle. If you have a stock whip, please bring that too. Dogs and extra horses for shoeing can be brought along. *Challenge Training Clinic price includes insurance per person

To make the catering easier, it would be appreciated if everyone wanting to order please complete their orders by Tuesday 18th. All proceeds from the canteen go back into the KOTR - thanks for your support. Canteen orders open for Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sunday breakfast and lunch. Saturday night dinner is camp oven cooked. Morning Tea - everyone please bring something to share.

The Stockman's Challenge is run over 3 days, with horse and rider competing in 6 preliminary events consisting of Bareback, Whipcrack, Packsaddle, Stock Handling, Shoeing and Cross Country. The top placegetters in each class then compete in the Finals Events on Sunday. The Bush Festival has a full programme of entertainment, demonstrations & fun competitions offering something for all the family

The Stockman's Challenge is run over 2 days, with horse and rider competing in 6 preliminary events consisting of Bareback, Whipcrack, Packsaddle, Stock Handling, Shoeing and Cross Country. The top placegetters in each class then compete in the Finals Events on Saturday evening. The Bush Festival has a full programme of entertainment, demonstrations & fun competitions offering something for all the family, all day until late on Friday and Saturday
